9 degrees Aries

The partial
solar eclipse at 9 degrees Aries will align at sunrise this Saturday on the East Coast of the United States, which seems fitting due to the Aries archetype of new adventures. The Sun is exalted in Aries, which fuels the instinct for new starts, assertiveness and a competitive nature.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and in the Northern Hemisphere, we associate Aries with the Spring Equinox and the re-awakening of nature after the winter hibernation. Ruled by warrior Mars in Cancer, there's a drive to protect in this 6-month eclipse cycle. Defending the vulnerable or protecting what you care about are motivating factors of this new cycle.

Solar eclipses are a temporary darkening of the light of consciousness, that often involve a karmic reckoning of sorts, particularly for leaders (Sun) and in this case war leaders (Aries). It's no wonder that 'Signal gate' is taking over the headlines which has much to do with the Mercury rx in Aries 'trickster' archetype of mixed-up messages as it does with the subject matter being war and the leaders involved.

As I mentioned in my previous email, 9 degrees Aries is a 'hot' degree as it's where both Venus and Mercury stationed retrograde and where they'll eventually pass their post-retrograde shadows. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is "A Teacher Gives New Symbolic Forms To Traditional Images."

Mercury retrograde is always a time to re-imagine meaning, review assumptions and where hidden messages are revealed. Venus retrograde gives us a different perspective on our relationships, values and self-esteem. The unfolding of the solar eclipse will carry this new vision forward, bringing new opportunities for passions that drive our actions, desires and motivations.

The last times we had eclipses near this degree was on October 3, 2005 with a lunar eclipse at 10 degrees Libra/Aries and on Mar 29, 2006 with a solar eclipse at 8 degrees of Aries. Reflect back to that time and the 6 months following. How did the themes of being independent, assertive and motivated play out in your life? How could you act in ways more wisely and courageously now?

As this is the final eclipse on the Aries/Libra axis for 9 years, the transformational storylines that began in April 2023 are coming to a conclusion, moving into the Virgo/Pisces axis.

What is especially significant about this eclipse is that the following day, Neptune enters Aries - where it will be transiting until 2038 after a brief dip at the end of the year back into Pisces - symbolizing the transition from the collective Piscean escapism to the Aries collective aspiration of passion and pioneering nature. Neptune will continue to have Saturn on it's heels and while the two won't exactly conjoin in Aries until February 2026, when Saturn enters Aries on May 25, they will make the Aries archetype even more felt in the collective. This will be a major shift from the water element to the igniting of fire.
